Day 14 - First Follow-Up
I went for my first follow-up visit on Day 15. I was very excited to have my wrap removed and see what my foot looked like. It had been two whole weeks since I had seen it and couldn't wait to check out the incisions. To my suprise, it didn't look that bad. I had seen some horrible photos online and was prepared for some major black and blue but there was minimal bruising and the swelling had gone done quite a bit. They took the sutures out which was pretty painless, cleaned the incisions, covered with surgical steri-strips and re-bandaged. I was told one more week of wearing the bandage before I can take it off for good. I graduated to a Darco surgical sandal. This lovely shoe will be my daily footwear for the next 6 weeks. I was told I could walk around more, start to put pressure on it, but not to exert direct pressure on the forefoot and no bending.

I'm headed towards sesamoid surgery myself - I'm getting SO much from reading the blog... thanks so much & please keep posting - I'm wondering how you are doing!?
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear this! I've obviously slacked off but I plan on updating very soon. I'm almost 9 weeks post-op and doing well! I will fill in the details but I've been walking with little to no pain.
ReplyDeleteI JUST saw your reply! That is awesome you've been walking with little to no pain. That's my BIGGEST fear. That some how it will be worse after surgery. Were you happy with Dr. Deland at HSS? I saw Dr. Positano at HSS (he's foot and ankle specialist, but non-surgical) and he was really against the surgery in general.... I've since switched docs to NYU. Funny though - my PT told me to see Dr. Novella this week as a last opinion- I see you saw him too!! What did you think? Also... If you want to go offline on this let me know.
